Who Dat Wednesday: Alexis Vinett - Moonstruck EP

Favorite songs: All of them

Today’s WDW is brought to you courtesy of a PeekABoo PrettyGirl event. PABPG, Inc. is a non-profit organization that uplifts young girls and women and makes fashion and beauty accessible to all. You know I always got you with the links so check them out.

Today we have our first female artist on WDW! Woohoo!! Alexis Vinett is a songstress transplanted to Columbia, SC due to Hurricane Katrina. She attended NOCCA (New Orleans Center for Creative Arts) Middle School before she moved. Her passion for singing began at 12 years old after she started posting song covers on YouTube. Fast forward one whole decade and she releases her first six song project. With a soulful style influenced by Amy Winehouse and Erykah Badu, I give you my take on Alexis Vinett’s Moonstruck EP.

Unfortunately I have a hard time finding female artists that I enjoy and can rock with on a consistent basis. I haven’t had one to keep my attention for longer than a season or two. However, after seeing Miss Vinett perform and listening to her EP I think I am coming close. The otherworldly vibe this EP brings is…well out of this world. From top to bottom this project ebbs and flows through your ears. The production is impeccable. Her voice is melodic. The lyrics are what really capture my soul. They’re so empowering and confident even when they aren’t meant to be.

“I can’t go on with this feeling; trapped all in my feelings. Gotta get out and forget you.”

“Look at you, young goddess. Living off that energy.”

Just a few of the gems she places so delicately in the midst of beats and deep vocals. “Sunset”, “Wonderland”, and “Moonstruck” start the EP off with an aura of love and lust. “Trouble” and “Cold” take a different direction allowing for darkness and some heartbreak. “Young Empress” is a stand out track that gives clear instructions on confidence and empowerment.

When I find a new artist I like I can gush on and on. Head on over to SoundCloud and give this EP some plays. Well worth it. Then watch the video for “Moonstruck” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=In8tx3yC0L4 The follow her on all social media. Then get your life.
